The What’s Up Guide to the Best Campsites in Chiang Mai
The popularity of camping in Thailand has increased in proportion to the willingness of Thai people to explore other provinces other than their own. Most Thai provinces now offer travellers camping sites to pitch tents and Chiang Mai is no exception. Private campsites have not really caught on yet. Most of the facilities in the Chiang Mai and greater Northern Thai region are located in parks operated by the Department of National Parks.
Doi Inthanon, Doi Suthep-Pui and the other main national parks around Chiang Mai have at least one designated campsite with pitches for campers to put up tents. Most also provide tent, mattress and sleeping bag rental services. The Department of National Parks recommends making advanced reservations for camping sites and equipment via their website, but in practice this is not necessary other than around peak national holiday times.
